Frequently asked questions
Good to know
Do I need a doctor’s referral to book a session?
No — a referral is not required. You’re welcome to reach out directly to book an appointment whenever you feel ready.
What does a typical session actually feel like
Like a focused, respectful, and confidential conversation. We look at practical strategies and tools, but the focus is always a safe space where you can speak openly without managing anyone else’s expectations or judgments.
Is what I share confidential?
Yes, entirely. Trust is the foundation of therapy, and what you share stays between us. The only exceptions involve legal obligations regarding your safety or the safety of others, which we’ll discuss transparently in our first meeting.
How many sessions will I need?
There’s no set number — every journey is unique. Some clients find direction and coping tools within 4–6 sessions; others value therapy as an ongoing space for reflection. We check in regularly to make sure our work keeps serving you well.
How do I know if we’re the right match?
The relationship between you and your counsellor is the most vital ingredient for successful therapy. That’s why I offer a brief, obligation-free introductory phone chat — a chance to meet, get a feel for how I work, and decide together.
How do I start a telehealth session?
When you contact us, just let us know you’d prefer a digital session. We’ll send all the information you need and a secure link to join at your scheduled time.
Is telehealth as effective as in person?
For many people, yes. Telehealth offers the same dedicated care with added convenience, accessibility, and continuity — ideal if you travel, live regionally, or have mobility consideration
Is the platform private and secure?
Yes. Sessions run on a secure, encrypted platform that maintains the same strict standards of confidentiality and professionalism as in-person care.
Privacy & confidentiality
Your privacy is protected
All personal information gathered during counselling remains confidential and secure, except where: it is subpoenaed by a court; non-disclosure would place someone’s life in imminent danger; you have given prior approval to provide a report to a third party; it is necessary to enforce legal rights; or a mandatory notification is required by law (such as suspected child abuse or a firearms risk).
You have the right to remain anonymous by not providing your name or contact details. Anonymity is respected and no identifying details are recorded — though this excludes some payment options and may cause minor administrative difficulties.
Confidentiality is managed in line with the guidelines of the Australian Psychological Society (APS), the Australian Association of Social Workers, the Australian Counselling Association (ACA), and the Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA), and in accordance with state legislation.
Cancellation policy
- Notice required: please provide at least 48 hours’ notice for any cancellation.
- Fees: a non-attendance fee applies if less than 48 hours’ notice is given, so we can offer the slot to other clients in need.
Counselling is not an emergency service.
